“Peace for Everyone.” That about sums it up. I was proud to march alongside approximately 5 million people worldwide and more than 60,000 here in Oakland, CA (USA) in support of peace for everyone.

The following is a photo essay from the Women’s March on January 21, 2017. I whole heartedly support equal rights and opportunities for all – regardless of gender, race, religion, nationality, or who a person loves.  Love is love. It was truly amazing and reaffirming to see so many people marching together peacefully in support of equality and in opposition to the misogyny, racism, hate, and lies being propagated by Trump and his cronies.

In light of recent current events I’d like to take this opportunity to express my deep concern for the rhetoric and actions of the current presidential administration. It is a slippery slope from democracy to fascism. Just ask history.

We require a system of politics and leadership that is honest, transparent and rooted in a genuine desire to help society as a whole to be more equitable and that seeks to protect those without power (including other species of life) from those with too much power. When people in positions of power (public or private) lie, they need to be held accountable and face severe consequences – imposed by the society that their lies harm. Period. Until the penalty for lying outweighs the benefits, incentives are misaligned and this post-truth politics will continue.

Facts matter. Evidence matters. Science matters. It’s true that this administration lost the election by nearly 3 million votes. Nevertheless, when our public officials lie regularly in a concerted Orwellian effort to change what people believe about events happening in the world in order to achieve some devious and nefarious ends, we must stand together and demand accountability. Resist often. Disrupt when necessary. Defend truth. Protect liberty and each other. #whyimarch
